what do you think is wrong, is the motor dead or just the turbo?

motor is fine.........just the turbo is gone. Its rubbing on the compressor housing. I have a few theories but won't know til i get the turbo off and apart.

theories
#1 when i attempted my rebuild i got it out of balance.
#2 when i did a retarded repair on an oil leak (the frost plug for the main oil gallery behind the intermediate gear) i might have introduced contaminates into the gallery
or #3 when i replaced my leaking ss braided feed line to the turbo with a black rubber steel braid line with reusable end...i could have got contaminates introduced again or maybe a flapper in the line causing a restriction starving the turbo.

or maybe 16psi and my BOV sitting on the work bench not installed caused it.

either way its toast. just have to make sure i double check oil flow and get the BOV installed

I've rebuild many turbos and I have to say you have to properly break in a rebuild turbo. I see so many people slap in a freshly rebuild turbo and boost the crap out of it on the first run and wander why it blew up. :19 That's why I stopped rebuilding turbos for people. :05 I have runed my rebuild turbos up to 25 psi for years without any issues. As a matter of fact I know people that still run my rebuild units till this day without problems. It can be done you just have to go easy on in for a while. I usually drive it at like 5 psi the first month then slowly start bumping the boost up by 2 - 3 increments.

Good luck. :12
